Person I was with managed to get a picture of his map before losing signal which took us over Ilam Bridge but shortly after the bridge, the path stopped in the direction we needed to get to Milldale. 4. Here we had a decision to make; we could either walk back the way that we had come through Dovedale, or we could make a circular walk by climbing up to the west of the valley. You can reach the village on the Limestone Way from Thorpe. We followed the signs for Stanshope instead which was also a nice walk through the valley but we turned back before getting there due to snow/ice and not really knowing where we were heading. In wet weather, the field can be very wet and boggy so waterproof hiking boots are recommended! Here stand two mighty tors of sandstone, Pickering Tor and Ilam Rock, both have small caves in the base of them but not really big enough for much exploration.
